You're living the life you were supposed to be happy with

Perhaps you feel a murmuring guilt or confusion that you can’t quite place: there’s a dissonance between how your life appears on the outside and how it feels on the inside. Nothing seems to be wrong, and that’s the hardest part to understand. You may even have been told to be grateful for what you have, as though your feelings are something to be dismissed rather than listened to.

Not for the first time, you may have attempted familiar quick-fix remedies: reading self-help books, changing jobs, or ending relationships. Yet the patterns you notice seem more deeply ingrained, following you beyond these changes, rhyming as they repeat. You may even have wondered if something is fundamentally wrong with you.

You’ve become skilled at burying this internal dissonance, displacing it into other activities, fearing what may emerge in the silence between. Perhaps it manifests as a vague anxiety that hovers at the edge of your awareness, a force within you that insists on speaking up: Is this what life is supposed to feel like?

Your feelings carry real wisdom, and they deserve to be listened to with care, patience, and respect.

I practice a warm, relational tradition of depth therapy that prioritises intimate human connection over clinical checklists. While your past holds value, our primary focus will be on what is happening in your life, and in our sessions, right now.

This creative, present-moment approach to our work together is inherited from my supervisor, who has over 30 years of experience as a therapist. His own teacher, James Bugental, was the founder of existential-humanistic psychotherapy, and it is this legacy that I bring into the care and presence I offer you.

The most important factor in the outcome of our work together is our relationship and the degree to which you can fully be yourself in the therapeutic space. Honouring this, I offer a free, no-commitment initial session to allow you to see how I work and decide whether I am the right fit for you.

Common starting points

The following are common starting points for therapeutic work:

  • Anxiety and stress during a major career, relationship, geographic, or cultural change
  • Loneliness or disconnection from your day to day, as if you’re just going through the motions
  • Dissatisfaction with important or significant relationships, whether personal or professional
  • Emotional patterns in relationship with yourself or others that feel like they’re getting in the way
  • Seeking greater meaning from life or wanting to change a feeling of being stuck
  • A feeling that something just doesn’t feel right; that change could lead to greater fulfilment

Like silt stirred up from the bottom of a still lake, it can be disorienting to navigate these transitions and explore these deeper questions without unconditional support. Approached with courage, these are fertile opportunities for growth.

My story

My own inner journey began amidst the chaos and challenges of running a startup in Silicon Valley. At what many in our society would consider a career pinnacle, I felt like I was living someone else’s life. I had achieved everything I had set my mind to, but the results felt empty. I was fortunate to start working with a skilled therapist during this time.

Through years of my own depth therapy, I learned to keep showing up to difficult, painful internal places, repeatedly stepping into the unknown with courage and curiosity. Over time, the truth opened up to me as an inevitability. The self-betrayal of staying on my existing path was more painful than the fear of following my inner voice.

I chose to move back to the UK, where I grew up, and practice this therapeutic work with my own clients. My personal journey has given me a calm faith and resolve in the power of what is possible when we choose to really listen to ourselves and dare to fully live our lives. This work is a personal calling, and it is beautiful to witness others reconnecting with themselves in the same way. You’re welcome to read more about my journey.

Being in session together

Most of us have rarely had the experience of being listened to unconditionally. Each of our sessions is an opportunity for you to feel the freedom of expressing yourself without judgment or expectation. When your experiences are held with care and respect, you’re given the possibility of both making sense of and transforming their impact on the rest of your life.

Whatever emerges in session, our focus together will be on what you are experiencing in the present moment. I will stay right there with you as you sense and make sense of what comes up. Your past always informs your present, and though we may spend some time understanding what shaped who you are today, change is accessible by connecting to what you already hold in this moment.

Though there is no time commitment, I generally work with people over a longer-term relationship, which honours the space and time that this potentially life-changing work can require. Sessions are held weekly over Zoom. I’m based in the UK, and I work with clients here and internationally as timezones allow.
